Hi Peter,
I've installed that driver along with 3D vision CD.
Well at the moment can't tell any advantage of this new driver
compare to your DRIVER (APART FROM 3d VISION).Will test it on
DIRT 2 (as this game loading all of the laptop's potencials even on low settings).Have to say there are no as many screen resolutions as it's in your modified driver & also after instalation if  you'll try to update windows - two updates will come up:
*  Nvidia High Defenition Audio (older version)
* ATK-Input-ATK0100 ACPI Ultility
I did not go for Audio update as it's older version but went for ATI
update and it's ended up with an error CODE 80070103.
After that I did try several times to reboot system & next thing happened:
System shooted down but the power was still "on" so had to manually shooted down by pressing power button.
Well I'm sure that happened cause of that update's error but what I
would really like  to know how to recover back that laptop's complete shoot down operation. I'm sure you can figure that out & can help to resolve that issue.
I've purchaced plastic cover from asus.euro (slovenia)- GB £37.00 in tottal with UPS delivery. As soon as I'll get it -will do that modification & temperature test. Will post the outcome (incl pictures). Haven't buy RAM yet but will do it very soon....

Hey maverick,

Do you have a 120Hz external monitor to use the 3D Vision with? There is a varient of the G51J/X - the G51J/X-3D that has a much lower resolution LCD (1366x) but with 3D capabilities (eg. 120Hz). It needs those extra Hz to display all the different visual streams to construct the 3D Successfully - some people have tried with 60Hz displays and it comes out very flickery. I really wanted Full HD for all the extra content display, resolution and definition if offers so I went with the G51JX-A1 and got the 1920x1080 60Hz model instead.

Interesting on the ATK front - that is an ASUS driver that handles many of the power settings for the laptop.

How long did you wait for it to complete the shut down? I know when I select shut down it will turn my monitor off almost instantly, but it can take 2-3 minutes before the system is completely off.

It would seem though the ATK update could cause that kind of problem - you could go to Safe Mode and uninstall and then reboot and install whatever version was included with the ASUS CD and see if that helps. I would leave it for 10 minutes and see if it shuts down though. I'm wondering if perhaps some of the longer shut down times for me was because Windows was installing updates, but with the monitor off I didn't see them. I never had it go too long though (though I wasn't always watching or timing it).

I'm looking forward to your cover mod info and RAM report .

Hope that helps,

PJPeter

Hi Peter
Just managed myself.
I inserted ASUS driver instalation disc and it came up with that
*IMEI (3rd line)
*ATK ACPI (4th line
are not instaled. So I reinstaled them again and that problem gone.
I shuted down 3 times & power went straight away "off"

Interesting - true, your previous post was just about updating the ATK Input (buttons) driver. If the update of that somehow uninstalled the ATK Driver itself then that would make sense why the notebook wasn't responding properly. I meant to mention that, but with everything else I missed it - glad you got it fixed .

With the 60 Hz screen you should be good for 3D as long as the frame rate is low. I know someone was playing a game with fast fps (the latest Call of Duty maybe?) and was getting all sorts of flickers when trying to run with 3D enabled at full blast - and this was even after just having the 3D Mode enabled automatically dropped the FPS in half.

If you are getting good 3D vision in games with much action and a fast frame rate then that would certainly be awesome - please let us know.

Thanks,

PJPeter

No problem - just click 'My Profile' at the top of the side bar on regular Forum View or click 'Profile' if you are using the full Forum Display.

Then just change the 'Forum Avatar' option and you're done . If you need to upload your picture you can also use the Picture Upload feature here.

Hope that makes sense - if you have any suggestions on how to make it more straightforward or visible please let me know .

Thanks,

PJPeter

Darn, yep I see that ASUS USA is out of stock on those covers again. I was going to order one myself when I heard back from you - well hopefully they will be in stock soon. It's good you have it on order now, for me I'll have to just keep checking that site everyday incase it comes back in stock. I remember hearing it was a very popular mod so the part was in high demand - hopefully it'll be back in stock soon.

Good to hear you got the RAM though .

When I play Mass Effect I've noticed that my palm rest gets quite warm (42*C measured with my new IR thermometer). I do have a small USB fly-fan that I picked up for $2 last year that I now have attached to the top of the screen blowing cool air at that spot and it really helps, gets it back down to around 32*C instead. So I like the idea of getting more air down there - and it may also help, since the way it is setup by default it gets lots of air from under the keyboard (from what I've read anyway) and therefore if the lid is closed it can overheat very easily. This though adds the air below as a much greater vector, and could definitely help with that.

Hey thaigiang, the Advanced Settings option is certainly something to check (thanks Nokuma). I didn't have to do that though with my system and there is no option like it in those menus that I can see. The only time the Turbo Mode drop down (which you can see in all sorts of my screenshots) disappears for me, is if I am in some other mode than High Performance. In that mode it is always there.

The Intel Turbo Boost driver not installing is quite odd - can you run CPU-Z and confirm it is detecting the i7 720QM correctly? You can also try reinstalling Power4Gear to see if that helps. The Boost driver you are trying to install, did you get it from ASUS, the ASUS website or Intel? I could also see something like this happening if you did not have the ATK or some other Power/CPU/Chipset driver installed.

Lots of things to check and try there, hope something of it helps,

PJPeter
